El pasado 8 de marzo se celebró en todo el mundo el Día Internacional de la Mujer. Este día se ha convertido en una fecha clave del movimiento feminista. Millones de mujeres de todos los rincones del mundo salieron a la calle a manifestar contra la violencia y exigir la igualdad de género.

En América Latina hubo manifestaciones masivas. En México, miles de mujeres protagonizaron una marcha histórica en la capital y en otras ciudades del país para protestar contra la creciente violencia de género e impunidad, tras un aumento en el número de feminicidios. También hubo importantes manifestaciones en Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Brasil, El Salvador y Ecuador.

En España, más de 100.000 personas en Madrid se unieron a la marcha bajo el lema “Con derechos, sin barreras, feministas sin fronteras”. También hubo manifestaciones en Bilbao, Barcelona y Sevilla, entre otras ciudades.

Feministas y activistas en todo el mundo han nombrado el 2020 “el año de las mujeres”. Según la Organización de Naciones Unidas (ONU), “el mundo ha logrado avances sin precedentes, pero ningún país ha alcanzado la igualdad de género”. El año 2020 es un año decisivo para la promoción de la igualdad de género en todo el mundo.

Latin America and Spain march for Women’s Day

International Women’s Day was celebrated around the world this past 8th of March. This day has become a key date for the feminist movement. Millions of women from all corners of the world took to the streets to demonstrate against violence and demand gender equality.

In Latin America there were mass demonstrations. In Mexico, thousands of women staged a historic march in the capital and in other cities of the country to protest against the increasing gender violence and impunity, after an increase in the number of femicides. There were also important demonstrations in Chile, Colombia, Argentina, Brazil, El Salvador and Ecuador.

In Spain, more than 100,000 people in Madrid joined the march under the motto “With rights, without barriers, feminists without borders”. There were also demonstrations in Bilbao, Barcelona and Seville, among other cities.

Feminists and activists around the world have named 2020 “the year of women”. According to the United Nations (UN), “the world has made unprecedented progress, but no country has achieved gender equality.” The year 2020 is a decisive year for the promotion of gender equality worldwide.
