Wifredo Lam at the Tate Modern 14 September 2016 – 8 January 2017

An influential and iconic 20th Century Cuban artist, Wifredo Lam  has been dubbed the Cuban Picasso. Although he is not merely an imitator of Picasso’s work. His work battles themes of social injustice, nature, spirituality, identity and culture and is connected to movements such as surrealism and cubism.

This retrospective celebrates his life and artistic career and is relevant now in a time of globalisation alongside cultural tensions.
