El Clásico week!

Blogs and social events

Hola Chicos y Chicas!

Have you already booked your place for El Clásico match in the pub?

If not, please hurry up as we would love to have you and share your knowledge of Spanish football with us.  I believe would be great to have a room for ourselves instead of sitting far away from the screen and not being able to watch the match properly.

We will be lucky to watch this match as there are only 6 matches left in La Liga and the team who wins the match will get closer to become Champion. At the moment Real Madrid is ahead by 3 points and one game in hand so if they win on Sunday will almost win the league but if FC Barcelona win the match they will be ahead of them and will put big pressure on their rivals.

This Liga has improved a lot because many teams managed to fight and get draws and even victories against big teams as Sevilla, Real Madrid, Atletico de Madrid and Barcelona. Whereas last year, almost every match against big teams meant a big loss. It is a big pity that Atletico de Madrid lost many points at the beginning of the season, otherwise would be a tight fight for the title between 3 teams.

Last week Real Madrid only beat Sporting de Gijon  3-2 (18th in the table with only 22 points) in last minute of the match with a superb performance from Isco, who scored 2 goals. Last months Isco is showing that would be great inheritor for the National team and proving that could play at top level. Unfortunately ahead of him he has Bale, Benzema, Ronaldo and Modric and he is not playing as often as he would like, but he is playing by far better than all the rest of players. On the other hand Barcelona  also suffered to Real Sociedad 3-2 but with that score they still put pressure on the leaders.

The last 2 weeks Barcelona and Real Madrid have focused on the Champions league. Both teams were playing against strong contestants, Juventus de Turin and Bayern Munich respectively. In the first tie, Real Madrid travelled to Munich with loss of respect as Bayern is know for Real Madrid supporters as “La Bestia Negra” which means historically they have not won many matches against them. The match was very even but Real Madrid managed to get an important victory 1-2 with two goals from Ronaldo. Yesterday in the second tie, the match went to extra-time and Ronaldo rescued Real Madrid by scoring a Hat trick. To be honest, not only Ronaldo rescued the team, also the referee made a big part in the match by conceding an off-side goal and by sending off one Bayern player wrongly. But again Real Madrid on a Champions League semifinal for seventh year in a row and with big chances of winning their 12th title. They have great chance as Ronaldo looks on fire for the first time in many months after scoring 5 goals in the quarterfinals – the first time a player has  done that.

Meanwhile, FC Barcelona lost last week against Juventus 3-0. A big humiliation for a team that is not used to concede so many goals. But that was second time in last month as PSG scored 4 goals against them but you can never underestimate Barcelona and PSG did, so they lost the tie in a second game in Barcelona (6-1). Will Barcelona qualify tonight? If so, we will have 3 Spanish semifinalists and surely another Spanish team in a final for forth year in a row.

We’re looking forward to seeing you on Sunday!
