Volver – 11 August 7.30pm
Hola chicos!
Next week is our fifth film and we would love you to join us for another wonderful movie and another Almodóvar masterpiece – “Volver”.
The film was written in 2006 with a cast Almodovar had already worked in the past, such as Carmen Maura and Chus Lampreave who both were in “Mujeres al borde de un ataque de nervios”; Lola Dueñas in “Hable con ella” and the main actress Penélope Cruz who featured in “Todo sobre mi madre”.
Volver was one of the films competing for the Palme d’Or at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival.
It eventually won two awards: Best Actress and Best Screenplay. After that, Penélope Cruz was nominated for the 2006 Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the first Spanish woman ever to be nominated in that category.
With this movie she gained a worldwide reputation and was called to work together with Woody Allen in Vicky Cristina y Barcelona where she was awarded for best supporting actress.
In the movie there is a famous shot where Raimunda (Penélope Cruz) sings “Volver”. The song originally was a tango by Carlos Gardel and was converted to flamenco and is sung in the movie with the voice of Estrella Morente and lip synced by Penélope Cruz.
Do not miss this amazing movie plus an enjoyable social evening with other Vamos students.
It’s always great to share a glass of wine or a beer and a pizza with people.
Nos vemos el próximo viernes.

Enric Sancho
Hola! I am Enric Sancho from Barcelona. I've always loved to study different languages and learn about other cultures, so 3 years ago I decided to make teaching Spanish my profession and I love it. I qualified as a teacher at International House London where I learnt about the communicative approach and a few months ago I also qualified as a DELE A1/A2 examiner at Instituto Cervantes in London. I always aim to make my lessons interesting and enjoyable with cultural tips, so my students travelling to South America and Spain can communicate with native Spanish speakers.
