A retired legal counselor writes a novel hoping to find closure for one of his past unresolved homicide cases and for his unreciprocated love with his superior – both of which still haunt him decades later. This is the plot of El Secreto de sus Ojos (The Secret in Their Eyes), an Academy Award-winning thriller based on the novel La pregunta de sus ojos (The Question in Their Eyes) by Eduardo Sacheri. The film goes back and forth from 1974 to present day, centering on a judiciary employee (Ricardo Darín) and his superior (Soledad Villamil) investigating a rape and murder case that remains unresolved. It captivated audiences worldwide, winning awards in Hollywood and Spain including the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film as well as the Spanish equivalent at the Goya Awards. It also became the second-highest grossing film in Argentine history, at the time of its release.
