London Spanish Film Festival Spring Weekend
The London Spanish Film Festival is bringing the 9th edition of the Spring Weekend, an annual date to show what’s been going on on Spanish screens this past year. 9 different films will be screened in cinemas around London between Friday 12th and Sunday 14th of April. All screenings will be in Spanish with English subtitles, so this is a wonderful opportunity to continue learning Spanish outside the classroom!
The screenings will include both critically acclaimed TV shows as well new films never seen before in the UK. The programme includes The Silence of Others (in Spanish, El Silencio de Otros), a powerful documentary about the victims of the Franco dictatorship that we talked about in a previous post, as well as the black-and-white series Arde Madrid, which will premiere in the UK and will be introduced by director and actor Paco León and producer Anna Costa.
You will also have the opportunity to see Yuli by Spanish director and actrice Icíar Bollaín, which takes us to Cuba as it follows the struggles of a poor family, and Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s tense and fast-paced thriller The Realm (in Spanish, El reino). Other titles are Ana by Day (Ana de día), Get Her… If You Can (¿Qué te juegas?) and the Catalan films Formentera Lady and The Distances (in Catalan, Les Distàncies).
The films will be screened at Regent Street Cinema in Marylebone and Ciné Lumière in South Kensington. The team at London Spanish Film Festival have devised a wonderfully varied programme, so you are sure to find a film that interests you, and some of the films will only be screened in the UK as part of the London Spanish Film Festival Spring Weekend so this may be your one and only chance to enjoy some of these great Spanish titles!
