Casa Festival – September and October
¡Hola chicos!
If you are looking for more activities to practice your Spanish out of class I have some good news for you: the Latin American Theatre Festival CASA is returning to London in September and October to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
This festival was created to bring some of the best Latin-American theatre to the UK, and in its ten years of history it has become an internationally-renowned event. The CASA team believe in the relevance of their work to push our cultural boundaries and open our minds in a moment when it is more important than ever.
I first heard of this festival in 2015, when I decided to volunteer as an usher and had the chance to see some fantastic plays in exchange. My experience was so good and I am looking forward to see what CASA has prepared for this season!!
The programme this year includes shows by companies from Mexico, Chile and Brazil, as well as works from Latin-American artists based in the UK. These shows will be performed in Spanish or Portuguese with English surtitles at two of the most prestigious venues of the off-West End: Southwark Playhouse and Arcola Theatre. A prove of the universal nature of theatre and of what brings us together: two of these shows are based on Shakespeare plays.
As part of CASA, the Arcola will also host the show winner of Best Production at the 2016 Off West End awards: Thebes Land, an exceptionally moving play by Uruguayan playwright Sergio Blanco, and directed by Daniel Goldman, the artistic director of the festival – this show will be performed in English. CASA 2017 also brings art exhibitions, workshops, talks, music and food! Click below to find out more about dates, tickets and how to get involved, and see you at the theatre!!!
